Selective breeding is the process used by humans to develop new organisms with desirable characteristics. Breeders select two parents that have beneficial phenotypic traits to reproduce, yielding offspring with those desired traits.

Selective breeding is important to develop better or more useful strains ( breeds ) of the animals from the genetic diversity that naturally exists in the population of a single species.
