☛ The number of electron shared by one atom of the element to achieve the nearest inert gas electronic configuration is known as covalency.

  • For example:- covalency of \rm\:H_2 is 1 whereas covalency of \rm\:O_2 is 2.

Electrovalency :-

☛ The number of electron loose or gain by one atom of an element to achieve the nearest inert gas electronic configuration is known as. Electrovalency.

  • For example :- Electrovalency of NaCl is 1 and Cl is also 1 and electrovalency of aluminium chloride \rm\:(AlCl_3) , Al = 3 and Cl = 1

valency :-

☛ Valency is defined as the number of electrons gained ,lost or shared so as to make the octet of electrons in the outermost shell.
