Female foeticide is the illegal act of killing a female child even before her birth. In medical terms, the process is known as abortion.
* This arises out of gender discrimination and crime against women. This has been a major obstacle in the path of development of a country as it leads to gender disparity, loss of lives, high sex ratio, etc.
The various methods to combat this are:
* Encouraging and promotion of education of girls, providing stipends.
* Enacting laws to prevent the heinous crime.
* Awareness campaign.
* Stopping the practice of dowry.
* Sex determination to be banned in all places.
* Providing financial aid for families having a girl child.
