Overlapping social differences : -

1. When one one social diff becomes more impt than the other and people start thinking that they don't belong to the same community or country then social diff overlap eachother.

2. These may create deep social divisions and tensions thus are quite difficult to solve.

Example: - the dalits in India and the blacks in America tend to be poorer , illiterate , dominated , always discriminated and homeless ...thus these all problems are difficult to solve.

Cross cutting social differences: -

1. In this social diffs crosscut eachother and only one social diff remains to be the most important.

2. These don't create such tensions and divisions and thus ate easier to solve out.

Example: - Northern Ireland and Netherlands Both are predominantly Christian divided onto Catholics and protestants. In northern Ireland Catholics tend to be poor and discriminated while in Netherlands both are likely to be poor or rich,, thus they have conflict in northern Ireland but not in Netherlands.
