The sleeve cylinder is a part of the screw gauge which is framed on one end with a nut on the U-framed stud of the screw gauge.
A screw with its one flat end can be moved inside the nut by rotating its head which is in form of a hollow cylinder known as thimble.
The sleeve is used to mark the main scale and the base line.
A reference line or base line is graduated in mm is drawn on the cylindrical sleeve, parallel to the axis of the screw which is known as the main scale
