Martial Law literally means a situation in which military or army controls a region during the time of trouble.

It actually means when there is situation of tensions in a region due to various problems,the rights of people are usually disbanded. Also during this time the army or military controls that region in whichever way it likes.

For e.g. the martial law that was imposed in the year 1919 ,where public association which is a fundamental right now,was abolished during that time and people where not allowed to gather together.
