Map scale refers to the relationship (or ratio) between distance on a map and the corresponding distance on the ground. For example, on a 1:100000 scale map, 1cm on the map equals 1km on the ground.

Scale of the map means the ratio of the distance b/w 2 places in the map to the distance in the real world. for eg- 3 cm : 1000 km this means in the map for every 3 cm u are travelling 1000 km in the real world.
