The Vernacular Press Act (1878) was passed by the British government based on Irish Press Laws. It gave the power to government to keep a check on what was published by vernacular presses in newspapers, magazines, periodicals, etc. If a report was found to be seditious, it was warned. If the warning was not taken, then the press was liable to be seized and machinaries confiscated.
