soft water refers to that kind of water which can readily form water when mixed with soap. It contains bicarbonate salts of calcium and magnesium and this causes temporary hardness of water which can be removed by boiling.Soap is less effective in hard water because it reacts to form the calcium or magnesium salt of the organic acid of the soap.
