chief seattle says that the youth is impulsive. When the young men of his tribe get angry at some real or imaginary wrong, they paint their faces with black paint to show that their hearts are black, and thus are often cruel and relentless. The older men and women of his tribe fail to restrain them. He also states that revenge by the young men is considered gain, even at the cost of their own lives, but the older men who stay at home in times of war, and mothers who have sons to lose know better.
