People with protanopia color blindness lack the red detecting cone cells or pigments. As a result, they do not see red or orange colors as well. But they see all the other colors just fine. People with deuteranopia color blindness lack the green detecting cones or pigments, but have their other cones working just fine.

The condition is often inherited. Other causes include certain eye diseases and medication. More men than women are affected.

Most colour blind people are able to see things as clearly as other people but they are unable to fully 'see' red, green or blue light. There are different types of colour blindness and there are extremely rare cases where people are unable to see any colour at all.
