What does D.P. Mukerji mean by a ‘living tradition’? Why did he insist that Indian sociologists be rooted in this tradition?

According to D.P Mukerji “living tradition” means tradition that is not concerned with past only.

It is as relevant to present as it was in the past because according to him, Indian traditions have evolved over time. They incorporate all the essentials a modern sociologist needs.

Hence a modern Indian sociologist must be rooted in these traditions in order to analyze the society in a better manner. Because no society can progress by leaving behind their own traditions.

Following other’s traditions leave societies astray.
