When heat is added to a substance, the molecules and atoms vibrate faster. As atoms vibrate faster, the space between atoms increases. The motion and spacing of the particles determines the state of matter of the substance. The end result of increased molecular motion is that the object expands and takes up more space.

There is different phenomena for different states of object.

For Solid - In the solid, when an object gets heated, it receives heat till it gets melt.

For Liquid - In the Liquid, when an object gets heated, it receives heat till it becomes gas. First, it will get heat till it gets boiled, and after that it will become gas.

For Gas - In the Gas, when an object gets heated, it will spread till it is not spread everywhere.
