Marvel was an easy-going man who liked being alone and reclusive. His life before meeting Griffin was quite peaceful, though he had his own challenges to face. Griffin had been coercing him to do things he did not want to do. He forcibly took him to Iping to retrieve his important books; Marvel really had to exert a lot in carrying out Griffin’s plans. At Port Stowe also, he tried to give Griffin a slip, but could not! Griffin stole money from various places and stored it in Marvel’s pockets. Marvel felt his life not only in danger but completely at the mercy of Griffin. He had come to realize that Griffin was a dangerous man. He felt he would be a slave to his commands as long as he was with him. so the moment, he got a chance, he fled from him with Griffin chasing him hard.
