During this, there was racial segregation based on colour and the blacks suffered a lot. They weren't allowed to demand freedom or any right. Mandela himself spent thirty years in prison. He considered it a “glorious human achievement” that a black person became the President of a country, where the blacks were treated badly and were not even given basic human rights.
