the protective tissue of a tree is is the bark of the tree or the cork of the tree. the cork of the tree is made up of dead cells and helps in protecting the tree from any mechanical energy.

Cells of cork are dead and compactly arranged without  intercellular spaces in them.They have chemical called suberin in their wall that makes them impervious to gases and water thus they provide strong mechanical strength to plant.
