First, Mrs. Van Daan repeatedly verbally assaulted Anne Frank when she and her family had to go into hiding with them. Because they believed they already had enough to deal with, no one in her family stood up for her. Every time she needed someone to defend her, they would disregard her, and she felt hurt by this. Every time this occurred, Anne retired to her small room and vented her frustrations in her journal. Even though she occasionally experienced mild depression, she made an effort to maintain an optimistic outlook. But as this particular quote demonstrates, there were moments when she felt as though she should utterly isolate herself. “ New idea.
