what does the poet mean by '' rest if you must, but dont you quit

The poet meant that we may take rest for a while but we must not quit. As after taking rest we may continue our work again but quitting is just discontinuing and hence failure.

poet says that when you think that I feet tired or I can't face the difficulties anymore , then you can take a break ,take time but never quit because once you quit then you will not be able to do something.
