Hey mate!

Here is your answer

It means that a precipitate(ppt) is formed and it has been separated from the solution.

For example

When carbon dioxide is passed through limewater(calcium hydroxide) then white ppt of calcium carbonate is formed and lime water turns milky.

Hope this helps

009274: So does it mean it's in a different layer from the solvent?
KREPT: No, can't say it as a layer but the precipitate does form a layer which doesn't dissolve in the solvent
anwesha2672: It can’t be called a layer
KREPT: even if the ppt has enough mass to cover the whole bottom
KREPT: according to the question above, the solids settle OUT of the mixture, so it shouldn't be considered a part of the mixture, or one cansay another layer.

Heya..

The denser materials like solids are pulled by gravity more so they settle down the mixture

Thank you
