<i>Dhamma is the prakrit form of the word dharma. In buddhist context it means pretty much the same. Buddha did “Dhammachakkpravtan” (dharmacharkrapravartana) ie he set the wheel of law into motion.

<b>The wheel of law (dharma) was stuck in the materialistic and ritualistic vedic religion resulting in the imbalance of the world hence, buddha moved that wheel and led people to asceticism and put forth a spiritual perspective.
