theory of relativity is a set of rules which describe the realtive motion of different bodies in motion mathematically.
At that time no one had measured the speed of light. Then came Einstein he formulated a theory of relativity taking into account the constancy of the speed of light.

➡➡♦Special relativity: It describes relative motion of bodies which are moving at a constant speed wrt each other, i.e. with zero acceleration.General relativity: It was an improvement to special relativity, it describes the realtive motion of accelerated bodies in addition to non accelerated bodies.
➡➡♦General relativity also happens to describe gravity, because gravity is same as accelerated motion( The equivalence principle, Einstein himself said that it was his best thought ever ).
relativistic mass ,,,,mass energy equivalence ( E= mc² ) are all consequence of Einstein's theory of relativity.
