Eukaryotic cells contain membrane bound organelles , including a nucleus . Eukaryotes can be single - celled or multi - celled , such as you , me , plants , fungi and insects . Bacteria are an example of prokaryotes . Prokaryotic cells do not contain a nucleus or any other membrane - bound organelle.

Prokaryotes are the primitive type of cells which are unicellular and lacks membrane bound organelles such as nucleus , mitocondria, although they have nucleic material (nucleon) which is found scattered in the cytoplams or one must say there is no clear differnciation between nucleoplasm and cytoplasm.

On the other hand, eukaryotes may be unicellular or multicellular, have membrane bound organelles like nucleus, mitocondria, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi body etc. There nucleic material are arrange in the form of chromosome.

Due to this ,a clear division of labour can be seen in eukaryotes and efficiency is more as compare to prokaryotes . In prokaryotes all the functions are performed by single cell, hence it has been said for prokaryotic cell "jack of all , master of none''.
