Heating a solid to a high temperature may have many types of effects that may include the following.

1) There may not be any perceptible change as crystal lattices can be impervious to heat.

2) A crystal lattice may break apart and release all the ions in it which may lose their charge.

3) In some cases, the crystal lattice may break apart and release tremendous kinetic energy from it.
