The mistake in a cheque may be of two types. Either the name on cheque altogether different or there may be spelling mistake in the name say instead of Rita Gupta, name has been spelled Reeta Gupta or sometimes abbreviated name written on cheque instead of full name or vice versa. In case of mistake in name altogether, it needs to be got corrected from drawer of the cheque or a fresh cheque need to be obtained cancelling the previous cheque. But in case of spelling mistakes payee’s Bank generally takes confirmation from payee and gives a certifacate to Drawee Banker regarding credit of proceeds to payee's account and proceeds of the cheque credited in the account. In case payee's bank objects then, there is no alternative than to get the cheque corrected from drawer of the cheque only.
