Water is the element that expands in reducing its temperature below 0°C. The water freezes and turns into ice at 0°C.Ice take us more room compared to water which is in liquid state.

Most of he liquids when the freeze take up less space compared to their liquid form but water is an exception to this fact. It expands and takes up more space.
