On inhaling carbon monoxide it takes place of oxygen in haemoglobin.

Haemoglobin is a red pigment that helps in carrying oxygen to all the parts of the human body.

Carbon monoxides binds haemoglobin hundred times more than oxygen. This causes starvation of oxygen in the body.

The effect of inhaling this gas is really long-lasting.
