FORMATION:-
The Northern plain has been formed by the interplay of the three river system namely -- the Indus ; the Ganga and the Bhramaputra along their tributes.
AREA COVERED:-
It spreads over an area of 7 lakh sq. KM. The plain being about 2400km long and 240 to 320km broad is a densely populated physiographic division.
ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE :-
With a rich soil cover combined with adequate water supply and favourable climate it is agriculturally a very productive part of India.
DIVISION OF PLAIN :-
The plain is boardly divided into three sections:
(1) Punjab plains
(2) The Ganga plains
(3) The Brahmaputra plains
On the basis of difference in the relief the plain is divided into four sections:
(a) Bhabar (b) Tarai
(b) Bhangar (d) Khadar
