Given :

The element has BCC structure  

To Find :

The fraction of edge length occupied by particles

Solution :

  • Fraction of length not covered by particles in BCC (f) = (a-2R)/a

       f =  (a-2R)/a

  • In BCC  R= √3a/4

          f = (a-2×√3a/4) / a

         f = a(1-√3/2) / a

         f = 1-√3/2

         f = 0.136

  • Fraction of edge length covered = 1 - f

                                                      = 1 - 0.136

                                                      =0864

The fraction of edge length occupied by particles is 0.864
