The mucus protects our stomach lining from acids and enzymes. If mucus is not secreted by the gastric glands then the hydrochloric acid will digest and corrode the stomach walls

the function of mucus is to provide a protective layer around the inner lining of stomach is the mucus is not released by the gastric glands then the acid will react with our inner lining of the stomach and it will make inflammation in the stomach and may hunt us.
