Sulphuric acid eats(make a hole) wool clothing and wood by decomposing it and stealing the hydrogen and oxygen.

In a conentrated form, sulphuric acid is capable of absorbing large quantities of moisture from the air. For this reason, it is often referred to as being hygroscopic.
