What happen to the pollen that has been rejected by the pistil? Whether it become non viable or pollinate to other pistil?
Answers
Answer:
it can fertilize some other ovule of some other pistil if it's rejected due to self incompatibility
Explanation:
In self incompatibility the pollen is rejected because of the presence of same genes in pistil and the parent plant or the pollen grain.
There are two types of pollen rejection due to self incompatibility:-
1) Sporophytic- if the genes of the sporophytic body from which the pollen has come is having the same genes as the that of the pistil
2)Gametophytic- if the gene in pollen and one of the genes of pistil is same then it would be rejected
Remember the pollen also have only one copy of gene in case of sporophytic but the mechanism is so, so that the pistil can know the genotype of the parent sporophyte of the pollen.
