this process is actually calcination..

when carbonate ore of zinc is heated in absence of oxygen the products will be zinc oxide and carbon dioxide.
(heat)
znco3------------ zno + co2

then the obtained zno is being reduced by reacting it with carbon extract zinc

zno +c------zn +co(carbon monoxide)
