Ammonia gas dissolves in water to form ammonium hydroxide, a base. Ammonium hydroxide then reacts with acetic acid to form ammonium acetate and water. Ammonia combines with acetic acid to give ammonium acetate. When acetic acid is treated with ammonia then it forms an amide

Answer:

Step 1: CH₃COOH + NH₃ ⇄ CH₃COONH₄

Step 2: CH₃COONH₄ → CH₃CONH₂

Explanation:

Step 1: When acetic acid reacts with ammonia the hydrogen from -OH will break bond with O and will get attached with ammonia; resulting ammonia to acquire positive charge and CH3COO acquire negative charge. The product will be AMMONIA ACETATE.

Step 2: Now when AMMONIA ACETATE IS HEATED at 200°C; H₂O gets evaporated and the final product will be ACETAMIDE.
