Hey

Here's your answer!!

When steam is passed over Aluminium, aluminium oxide is formed along with a gas which burns with a pop sound when a burning splinter is brought near it. This gas is hydrogen.

Aluminium oxide is formed in the beginning and it forms a protective layer on the aluminium and stops the reaction. But on increasing the temperature further, the protective coating breaks, evolving hydrogen again.

2Al + 3H20 (steam) --> Al2O3 + 3H2.

Hope it helps!!

Answer:

When steam is passed over aluminium, aluminium oxide is formed, as well as a gas that burns with a pop sound when a burning splinter is brought close to it. This is hydrogen gas.

In the beginning, aluminium oxide is formed, which forms a protective layer on the aluminium and stops the reaction.

However, as the temperature rises, the protective coating cracks, releasing hydrogen once more.

2Al + 3H_20 (steam)Al_2O_3 + 3H_2
