Answer:

It crystallizes in needles, which contain two molecules of water of crystallization, and melt at 156° C. When heated above the melting-point it loses carbon dioxide and yields quinoline. Alkaline potassium permanganate oxidizes it to pyridine tricarboxylic acid (236).

When Quinoline and Iso-quinoline react with alkaline KMnO₄ the following reactions take place -

  • When quinoline and Iso-quinoline react with KMnO₄, it crystallizes in needles, and it contains two molecules of water of crystallization. This crystal melts at 156°C.
  • Alkaline potassium permanganate oxidizes quinoline into pyridine tricarboxylic acid.
  • When this crystal is heated above its melting point it loses Carbon dioxide and hence it yields quinoline.
  • Quinoline and Iso-quinoline are alkaloid natural products, contains Nitrogen element, most compounds basic (alkaline), often heterocyclic , and they are often highly toxic.
