When calcium oxide is added to water it forms calciun hydroxide Called slaked lime.  CaO +H2O →Ca(OH)2 The reaction between water and CaO is an exothermic reaction. Heat is released during exothermic reaction ,rise in temperature is observed.

Answer and explanation:

When water is added to solid calcium oxide taken in a container, calcium oxide reacts vigorously with water, and water is converted to steam which indicates that the reaction is an exothermic reaction. White powder is also obtained.

The product formed in the reaction is slaked lime and large amount of heat is produced.

The reaction is given below -

CaO + H₂O  ------ > Ca(OH)₂ + Heat

Calcium reacts with water to give Calcium hydroxide as product which is an alkali. Water converts to steam as it is an exothermic reaction. The solid turns into powder when water is added.
