There is no change to the image distance in the eye when we increase the distance of an object from the eye. To see closer or distant object clearly, the eyes, due to its ability of accommodation, can increase or decrease focal length of its lens, so that the image is always formed at retina.
No.. we have a screen in our eye.. it is called retina.. light just enter our eye from pupil which is a small hole to our eye ball. Behind it we have a converging lens like structure which converges all the light rays on retina. if any object has placed in front of our eye, then the light rays coming from that object will go into our eye through pupil then immediately they falls on lens and they are conveeged on retina and forms a clear image.
If we change the object position, in case of constant focal length lenses, the image distance also changes. So that if we move the object back away from our eye, the image should change its position . Means not on retina.. so we cannot see the object clearly.
To rectify it, our eye has a variable focal length lenses … it can accomdate itself based on object distance. This property of eye lenses is called accommodation.
If object distance is changing, to obtain a constant image distance which is equal to distance from lens to retina (2.5 cm) , we should change the focal length.
