After the death of Aurangzeb, the Mughal empire suffered as a result of weak successors. Dying in his age of 89 and still not giving major responsibilities to his sons,Aurangzeb left his successor unprepared to handle the vast empire he created. Due to his expansion policies and wars to suppress the revolts of Marathas in Deccan, the treasury was empty. And following his death a war of succession took place in which Bahadur Shah 1st emerged victorious and became emperor. Due to his weak military and leadership qualities, empire entered an era of terminal decline. Marathas, whom Aurangazeb held at the bay in his time, rose again in rebellion. He faced rebellion in all fronts. The Rajputs, the Sikhs and even his half brother Kam Bhaksh rebelled against his. Bahadur Shah died in 1712,after 5 years he took the throne.
