Answer:

When Jerome realized that he did not pack his toothbrush, he unpacked all of his items and his friend's items repeatedly until he found his toothbrush and he repacked again.

Explanation:

This line is from the lesson Packing, an extract from the novel "Three Men in a boat" by Jerome K Jerome.

The narrator Jerome, considered himself to be a expert in packing, a skill that he believed, that he was far more superior than others. As per the story, the narrator was also packing his friend's items. It was then that Jerome realized that he had not packed his toothbrush and this had gotten him worried as he did not want to be led into an unfortunate scenario where he did not have his toothbrush

So, Jerome in order to find his toothbrush, unpacked all this items and checked the items one by one. He unpacked his items and his friend's items. And in doing so, he realized that he found his friend's toothbrush 18 times but not his and as the narrator would not use his friend's toothbrush on the trip, he kept searching for his own.

And on finding his toothbrush in a boot, he started to repack his items again.
