There is a relation between magnetic pole strength, magnetic length, current and area of cross-section of a magnet.
m*l=I*A=M
where M=Magnetic moment.
According to this relation, when a bar magnet is cut into two halves along its length, area of cross-section become half.
But length remains the same.
So, the pole strength actually becomes half and consequently the magnetic moment becomes half
