rod and cone cells help in sensing the light that enters the eye . they are found near the retina . if cone cells are absent we won't be able to distinguish between colours

There are about 4.5 to 5 million cone cells in the eye unevenly distributed in the eye.

Cone cells are
- Less sensitive to light
- Useful in normal light situations
- Nonconvergent
- Detect and distinguish between Red, Green, and Blue Color
- Useful for color vision

Now if only very small % of cone cells are missing, there may not be any dis-functionalities in the eye. But if large % of cells are missing, eye could miss out on any of the above functions.
