Hello dear.....☺☺☺☺☺
Guard cells usually keep stomata open during the day and closed at night because during the night there is no sunlight for photosynthesis. If the stomata were open at night, very little gas exchange would occur, but water loss would still continue.
____Temperature also signals guard cells____

If gaurd cells stop working, then the regulation of transpiration cannot be done as the stomata cannot open or close.
EXPLANATION:
Guard cells are found in the stomata of leaves of the plant. They are basically turgid, swollen and have large stomatical opening. These cells are responsible for maintaining the gas exchange.
They make the stomata to open during the morning and close in night. In the morning they help in photosynthesis. If the stomata are closed in night due to flaccid form of cell causing the very little gas exchange but would be great loss of water.
