Okay, so have you ever filled a balloon with water? When the membrane of the balloon gets ruptured, it bursts. Similarly, 
If the membrane of a cell gets ruptured, the Cytoplasm starts to leak
This can lead to two results:
> Maybe the cell dies (if it has a cell wall)
> If the volume of cytoplasm becomes less, the pressure inside the walls becomes less and it bursts.

If the plasma membrane ruptures or breakdown then the cell will not be able to exchange material from its surrounding by diffusion or osmosis. Thereafter the protoplasmic material will be disappeared and the cell will die.
