What happens in a single-board microcomputer when the power is turned on and the reset key is pushed?

When the power is turned on, the monitor program stored either in EPROM or ROM comes alive. The reset key clears the program counter and the program counter holds the memory address 0000H. some system automatically reset when the power is turned ON ( called power-on Reset)
