Changes of state. The kinetic theory of matter can be used to explain how solids, liquids and gases are interchangeable as a result of increase or decrease in heat energy. When an object is heated the motion of the particles increases as the particles become more energetic

When the physical state of matter changes, the intermolecular forces between particles also changes that results in change in intermolecular distance between particles. Like during melting of solid to liquid, intermolecular forces decreases that increase the distance between particles.
