Breathing In (Inhalation) When you breathe in, or inhale, your diaphragmcontracts (tightens) and moves downward. This increases the space inyour chest cavity, into which your lungs expand. The intercostal muscles between your ribs also help enlarge the chest cavity.

During exhalation our ribs contracts and diaphragm relaxes i.e comes to its original position.
And during inhalation our ribs expand and diaphram gets down and expands.
Hope it helped u!
