What happens to the blood cells when placed in water?

Answer:

When blood cells are placed in pure water then red blood cells burst. This is because of osmosis. Water from high concentration of water (pure water) move to low concentration region of water (blood cells) through cell membrane. The pressure inside the cell increases which causes bursting of cell.
