Towards the midpoint of the menstrual cycle, the mature Graafian follicle, containing the egg that has been arrested in prophase of the first meiotic division, has moved to the surface of the ovary. under the influence of follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH) and luteinizing hormones( LH) the follicle expands dramatically.
