It is used up in overcoming the force of attraction bw the molecules of the solid

When an object is in solid state it's intermolecular force of attraction is very string. In order to break it's molecular force and change it into liquid and then gaseous state, heat or rise in temperature is needed.
When heat is passed through solid object(let's take an example of ice), first of all it's intermolecular forces breaks then it changes to liquid or gaseous state.
In short the heat supplied was used in breaking that force of attraction between the molecules or atoms.
Hope it'll be helpful.
