what happens to the resistance of a wire if the diameter is doubled

The resistance will be decreased.As larger the area, lesser the resistance.

The diameter becomes double. This means radius also gets double. So, the area of cross section becomes 4times. We know that resistance is inversely proportional to area of cross section . As the area of cross section becomes 4 times, the resistance would be ¼times
